Mountain Valley Spring Company Headquarters & Visitor Center
Among the best-known structures in the historic Hot Springs downtown district, the Mountain Valley Water building at 150 Central Avenue is a fine example of the Classical Revival style. Constructed in 1910, this two-story building was originally home to the DeSoto Mineral Springs. In fact, the building was built over a spring that can still be seen today at the rear of the first level. In 1921, a third level was added to accommodate a Japanese-styled ballroom. Bands such as "The Southerneers" played the waltz and foxtrot to large crowds .
The building became home to Mountain Valley Water Company when August Schlafly, then owner of Mountain Valley, purchased DeSoto. However, Schlafly moved the company’s headquarters to St. Louis. Since then, our company has changed hands and headquarters several times.
It wasn’t until 1987 that another owner, Dallas-based Sammons Enterprises, returned our headquarters to Hot Springs and began restoring the original DeSoto building. Governor Bill Clinton was among the dignitaries who spoke at the re-dedication ceremony in 1988.
In 2004, following the purchase of Mountain Valley by Clear Mountain Spring Water LLC of Little Rock, more renovations were begun to return the Visitor Center to a more historically authentic state. The "Famous Mineral Water" sign was re-created and placed above the Water Pavilion. In addition, the collection of Mountain Valley bottles and memorabilia for display was more than doubled.
We invite you to visit our Headquarters and Visitor Center. Situated along historic Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs, Arkansas, our Headquarters and Visitor Center stands within Hot Springs National Park, an area of outstanding beauty with hiking trails, picnic spots, and many scenic drives.
